Franklin Bean is one of the three main antagonists of Fantastic Mr. Fox. His associates include Walter Boggis and Nathaniel Bunce. He is the last of the three farmers to have his supply of apple cider stolen by Mr. Fox. After repeated thefts on Boggis's and Bunce's farms, Bean allies with them to have Mr. Fox killed. Bean is voiced by Michael Gambon.
According to Clive Badger, Bean is described as one of the three "meanest, nastiest, ugliest farmers" in the history of the local valley. He is further described as "a turkey and apple farmer. He invented his own species of each. He lives on a liquid diet of strong alcoholic cider, which he makes from his apples. He's as skinny as a pencil, as smart as a whip, and possibly the scariest man currently living."
Bean is very tall and thin, with large wrinkles around his eyes and mouth. His hair is grey-brown, and is completely bald in the center. Bean also has a large, plump nose. His choice of apparel includes a Beige Mac Coat (very similar to Mr. Fox's) over a yellow and red polo sweater, after he Shot off Mr. Fox's Tail he Wore it as a Tie. His weapon of choice is an old WWII Luger P08 Artillery Model. Bean is often seen smoking, and does so slowly. He also carries a walkie-talkie on his belt, which he uses to contact Petey.
Mr. Bean is the smartest of the three farmers. He most likely knows about genetics since he has invented his own species of turkeys and apples. He is also very cold and calculating. Bean always remains flat in his tone, but can lose his temper, when in such he would rage out of control and proceed to wreck anything within reach. He also possesses a certain degree of condescension for Boggis and Bunce upon meeting them, where he inquires as to their well-being, then continues without giving them a chance to reply.
Mr. Bean is a great shot, and always uses his own special gun (most probably a Luger P08 with extended barrel). This gun is long and skinny, matching Mr. Bean himself. He is able to take down multiple targets very quickly and accurately. This is shown when he calls a meeting with the other farmers, and he makes five perfect shots at all nearby lightbulbs.
